Grey Eagle Resort & Casino — full review
Last revision · fact check
Tsuut'ina Nation owns and runs Grey Eagle, on the south-west fringe of Calgary; the 178-room hotel opened in 2014. West-facing rooms can see the Rockies, the 2,500-seat Event Centre books serious acts, and Little Chief is one of Western Canada's better casino restaurants. The pool stays closed during renovation work that runs into 2027.
Book it for: Concert nights in Calgary and a base for Kananaskis or Banff day trips.
Pass if: Swimming laps is non-negotiable — the pool is shut through the renovation.
A Tsuut'ina Nation resort
Grey Eagle is owned and operated by the Tsuut'ina Nation. Gaming started in 2007; the six-storey, 178-room hotel had its grand opening on May 2, 2014. Downtown Calgary is minutes away and Kananaskis Country roughly 30 — no other casino hotel we cover offers that city-and-peaks combination.
Rooms
Ask for a west-facing room: on clear days, the Rockies are in the window. The rest look over the city. Options: Standard King, Premier King, Standard Two Queen (marketed to families), King Suite, Presidential Suite — all described by the hotel as newly renovated.
Gaming
84,000 sq ft, 975-plus slots, 32 tables. Slots run round the clock; tables 10 am to 3 am. High-limit rooms deal blackjack, baccarat and more. Alberta's age: 18. Phased renovation continues through 2026–2027, the casino says. Loyalty: Winner's Edge, the province-wide card.
Event Centre
2,500 seats, all ages, an L-Acoustics system installed in 2024, and the 2024 YYC Music Awards' Venue/Presenter of the Year title. The Concert Night Getaway — room plus two tickets — runs $329 to $369.
Food
Little Chief pairs modern technique with Indigenous tradition and has been written up by the Calgary Herald and Avenue Magazine. The Buffet (18+) serves nightly features until December 31, 2026, then closes for renovation in January 2027. Also: Blaze Bar & Grill, the Eagle Bar on the floor, the Stage Bar with free weekend shows, and the Eagle Street Eats truck — Indian tacos, chili and bannock, Saskatoon berry dumplings.
Pool closed, hot tub open
The casino renovation has shut the pool. In its place, hotel guests get free entry to two City of Calgary pools, Killarney and Glenmore. The outdoor hot tub, sauna and 24-hour gym remain open.
Culture and day trips
Grey Eagle Cultural Tours runs experiences on Tsuut'ina Nation, among them the Tsuut'ina Museum and a Buffalo Paddock Tour. YYC is 30–45 minutes away; Banff roughly an hour. Free parking; pets stay on a designated floor.
Our take
Best casino hotel for a Calgary-plus-Rockies trip, and a strong concert base. Until the works wrap up, plan on the hot tub, not the pool.
