Great Canadian Toronto, open since 2023 next to Woodbine Racetrack, is the newest big casino resort in the GTA. On file: 400 rooms, a 5,000-capacity theatre, pool plus sauna and steam, free parking and a complimentary airport shuttle from Pearson. The operator says no Canadian casino carries more slot machines.
01From Casino Woodbine to a full resort
The old Casino Woodbine got a new name and a hotel in 2023. Phase one of the casino opened June 20; The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto followed on August 1. The site is in Etobicoke, beside Woodbine Racetrack and a short drive from Pearson airport. Scale is the theme — the operator claims Canada's largest slot selection.
02Rooms
Everything is new: 400 rooms and suites. Standard keys come in four flavours, all 388 sq ft — Premium King, Racetrack King, Premium Two Queen, Racetrack Two Queen; the "Racetrack" ones look onto the track, which Destination Toronto says is true of nearly half the building. Accessible rooms get 60-inch roll-in showers and grab bars. Need space? Corner Suites add a queen sofa bed to the king; 2-Bedroom Suites sleep six. Both have a fridge and a microwave. Blackout curtains, bathrobes, NEST bath products, a mini fridge and a coffee maker throughout.
The guest making the reservation has to be 19 or over; kids may share the room but not the 19+ zones. Rooms are ready at 4 pm and due back by 11 am.
03Gaming
On opening in 2023, Global News tallied 4,800 slot machines and 145 tables. In the high-limit area alone: over 210 slots, more than 25 live tables and 15 electronic multi-game terminals for poker and blackjack. Hotel and casino are open around the clock, and membership of Great Canadian Rewards is free from age 19.
04Theatre, and horses next door
Up to 5,000 for a concert, 1,500-plus for a gala: that's The Theatre. Ticketmaster is the only seller. At Woodbine, most race days are free to watch, with free parking; the fall meet ran through November 29, 2026.
05Food
Fine dining means Copperhorn, a steakhouse set on the gaming floor. Casual is a gastropub heavy on local craft beer. Chopsticks Noodlehouse and Lobster Legend Noodle Bar (Teochew meets Western) handle Asian cravings, Pizzaiolo the gourmet pizza. The Food Hall: Mary Brown's Express, Tim Hortons, Noodlebox. Northern Lights Bar is 19+ cocktails; Lobby Bar Grab & Go serves everyone.
06Pool and gym
On the list: pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym. When it gets crowded, the front desk may put you on a pool-time sign-up.
07Shuttle, parking, pets
The airport shuttle costs nothing and operates in two windows (6 am–noon, then 3 pm–9 pm), from post F3 at Terminal 1 arrivals and near gates B and G at Terminal 3. Self-parking (enclosed, 3,800 spaces) is free; valet is around $20 Mon–Thu and $30 Fri–Sun. Pets: two cats or dogs at most, each under 50 lbs, $49 a night plus a one-off $49 cleaning fee.
08Heads-up: labour dispute
About 100 security officers belonging to Unifor Local 1090 were locked out by Great Canadian on July 23, 2026, and pickets went up outside. According to the operator's October 2, 2026 notice, the hotel and casino stay open around the clock, restaurant hours are as normal, and vehicles get through the line at least once every three minutes. Check the latest before driving over.
09Verdict on file
Flying in, going to a show, or after the biggest slot floor in the country? This is the Toronto-area answer. Rooms are smart but compact; a Corner Suite buys breathing room.
